GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman pitcher Drake Browne has been named a Cal Ripken League All-Star and will represent the Vienna River Dogs in the league's all-star game Tuesday evening at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
Browne, a rising junior right-hander from Cincinnati, Ohio, is 0-2 with a 2.95 ERA and team leading four saves for Vienna this summer. In 12 appearances, he has worked 21 1/3 innings, allowing 15 hits, seven runs, and four walks while registering 17 strikeouts. Vienna is 15-20 overall and in sixth place in the nine-team league heading into mid-season break.
In 2011 Browne served as a set-up man for the Paladins, totaling a staff high 31 appearances and going 2-2 with a 3.62 ERA over 37 1/3 innings.
