Men's Soccer 6/21/2011 9:22:00 AM Elon Media Relations Elon Men?s Soccer Announces 2011 Slate ELON, N.C. - Elon men's soccer coach Darren Powell has announced the 2011 schedule, which includes five contests against teams that competed in last year's NCAA Tournament. The traditional challenging slate features three Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, including a home date with the Clemson Tigers in Rhodes Stadium for the annual Jimmy V Classic. The Phoenix will play nine games on campus, seven at its home venue Rudd Field and two others in Rhodes Stadium, home to the Elon football team. "We are excited to have put together another competitive schedule for 2011 that includes several ACC teams and conference champions," commented Powell. "It is important to prepare the team with challenging non-conference opponents so that the group is ready for the Southern Conference schedule. We look forward to hosting regular-season Big South champion High Point in Rhodes Stadium on Elon's move-in weekend to open our season."After two road exhibition contests at UNC Asheville and South Carolina, Elon will kick off the 2011 campaign against the High Point Panthers on Saturday, August 27. The game is set to begin at 8 p.m. under the lights at Rhodes Stadium. During the first weekend in September, the Phoenix will compete in a tournament at Virginia Commonwealth where it will battle Coastal Carolina prior to taking on the host Rams. Elon will return home and open play in the comforts of Rudd Field for its annual tournament when the Phoenix hosts Charlotte and North Florida on September 9 and 11, respectively. The Phoenix will host Old Dominion on Saturday, Sept. 17 in between road trips to Campbell (Sept. 14) and Radford (Sept. 24). Southern Conference action gets underway on Oct. 1 when Elon will look to avenge last year's league tournament loss to Appalachian State. After a trip to Wofford (Oct. 4), Elon welcomes Davidson to Rudd Field on Saturday, Oct. 8 before Clemson visits Rhodes Stadium for the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Four of Elon's final six opponents are league foes, beginning at Furman on Saturday, Oct. 15. Following a trip down I-40 for a date with Wake Forest (Oct. 18), the Phoenix and Georgia Southern will tangle at Rudd Field on Saturday, Oct. 22. Elon will pay a visit to NCAA Tournament participant College of Charleston on Tuesday, Oct. 25 before closing out its home slate against reigning SoCon champion UNCG on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Phoenix will conclude the regular season at Duke on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The first round of the 2011 Southern Conference Tournament will be held on campus sites on Saturday, Nov. 5 with the semifinals and finals to be held in Boone, N.C., Nov. 11-13.
