Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Women's soccer team released their schedule for the 2011 season on Monday. The Bulldogs will host 10 games at Washington Light Infantry Field on The Citadel's campus, including six Southern Conference matches.
Head Coach Bob Winch, who earned his second consecutive SoCon Coach of the Year Award in 2010, will look to carry over the success of last year's record-breaking team with the return of Mariana Garcia, who was tabbed as Southern Conference Freshman and Player of the Year for the 2010 season.
The 2011 season starts with a slate of eight non-conference games beginning on the road against the Clemson Tigers on Aug. 21 before heading back to Charleston for a three game home stand against Winthrop (8/25), USC Upstate (9/2), and the United States Naval Academy (9/4).
The last four non-conference competitions will be played against the University of Mississippi (9/11), South Carolina State (9/13), Charleston Southern (9/17) and Presbyterian (9/20).
The Bulldogs, who are coming off of their most successful season in program and conference history (12-8-1, 7-4), will kick off their Southern Conference schedule with a weekend home stand against Western Carolina on Friday, Sept. 23 and Appalachian State on Sunday, Sept. 25. The Citadel's Women's Soccer team will look to continue their conference success as they captured wins against the Catamounts and Mountaineers for the first time in program history last season.
The remainder of the schedule has the Bulldogs on the road to compete against Chattanooga (9/30), Samford (10/2), Davidson (10/16), Wofford (10/21), and Furman (10/23), while their home agenda has them facing off against 2010 conference champion UNC Greensboro (10/7), Elon (10/9) and Georgia Southern (10/13) with a regular season finale against intercity rival College of Charleston on Oct. 26.
The first round of the Southern Conference tournament will be held on Sunday, October 30, and the Final Four and Championship games of the SoCon Tournament will be held in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 6.
