About the Championship
The 2012 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship will take place in Chattanooga, T.N. on Saturday, March 3rd. The event will be hosted by UTC in McKenzie Arena. This year will be the 75th annual Southern Conference Wrestling Championship. The 2012 championship will have seven teams as the conference added Campbell University, Gardner-Web University, and Southern Illinois at Edwardsville prior to the 2011-2012 season (SIUE will compete in the 2013 championship).
In 2011, Chattanooga took home their 25th title with 98 points, while UNCG claimed the runner-up spot with 87.5. UTC finished the tournament with four individual titlists and captured their sixth SoCon title in the past seven years. All ten weight class champions received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, along with the second place finishers in the 165, 184 and 285 pound weight classes. Chattanooga's Niko Brown earned an at-large invite.
