SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Allie Cashion, a sophomore softball player at Appalachian State, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for May 11, the league office announced today.
The Waxhaw, N.C., native holds a 3.86 GPA in actuarial science.
At the Southern Conference Softball Championship, Cashion led the Mountaineers with a .467 batting average, collecting seven hits in 15 at bats in four games. The sophomore hit her career-best 14th double and eighth home run in the tournament. Cashion knocked in seven RBI while scoring two runs in the tournament. In an elimination game against Georgia Southern, Cashion went 3-for-4 and knocked in all of ASU's runs in the 4-2 extra-inning victory.
For her play, Cashion was the lone Appalachian State player to be named to the 2011 SoCon All-Tournament Team, becoming only the fifth player in ASU softball history to earn the honor.
Other nominees included Georgia Southern baseball player Victor Roache and Chattanooga softball player Kandice Irwin.
