BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 match at UAB this afternoon. The Lady Mocs lost the doubles point and fell short in their rally in singles play to drop to 9-9 overall while the Blazers improved to 7-10.
Chattanooga was swept in doubles for just the third time this season. The Lady Mocs were able to mount a comeback, taking three of the first five single matches to knot the team score at 3-3.
Freshman Diana Zora started it off with a (6-3, 6-1) win at No. 6 over Brittany DeFelice.
Sophomore Jenna Nurik followed with a win at No. 1 over Girogia Romeo (6-3, 6-3). Freshman Alexa Flynn evened the score with her (6-4, 6-2) win over Paula Alvarez at No. 3. For Flynn, it was her team leading 17th win of the year.
The match came down to the No. 2 bout between UAB's Evelien Strijker and UTC junior Emily Hangstefer. Strijker won the first set 7-5, but Hangstefer responded with a 6-2 win in the second. The match was sealed with Strijker's 6-4 win in the third.
Chattanooga returns home on Sunday, April 10, to host Davidson. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
