SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Cameron Silverman has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 28-April 3. Silverman was a perfect 6-0 in singles and doubles play as the Phoenix picked up league victories over College of Charleston (5-2), The Citadel (6-1) and Furman (6-1) to extend their winning streak to eight matches. The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.
Competing at No. 2 singles for Elon, Silverman opened the week with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over CofC's Mickael Trintignac. Silverman then came away with wins over The Citadel's Derek Dickey (6-1, 6-4) and Furman's Andrew Mellow (6-1, 6-7, 12-10). Silverman is 10-8 in singles play and owns a 5-1 mark in conference matches.
The freshman teamed with Eric Turner at No. 3 doubles for the Phoenix last week as the Elon duo came away with three consecutive victories to run their record to 6-1 on the year, including a 5-0 mark in league play. Silverman and Turner beat Trintignac and Mickael Boyer of CofC, 8-4. The Elon pair then cruised past The Citadel's Jeremiah Dye and Josh Cook, 8-1, before downing Furman's Watson George and Tyler Droll (8-3).
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Andrew McKinnon, College of Charleston's Tom Delme, The Citadel's Dillon Berkabile, Davidson's Chris Mark, Georgia Southern's Juan Melian Puigventos, UNCG's Timion Meijs, Samford's Oliver Reynolds and Wofford's Drew Superstein.
