Irwin Signs Pro Contract with Capital City FC

OTTAWA, Ontario - Former Elon University soccer goalkeeper Clint Irwin has signed a professional contract with the Capital City Football Club of Ottawa. Irwin, a four-year starter for the Phoenix, spent the 2011 preseason with Major League Soccer's New England Revolution after graduating in December.

Irwin is Elon's school record holder for shutouts with 22, setting a single-season mark with 10 clean slates in 2009 while leading the Phoenix to the Southern Conference Tournament championship game. He ranks third all-time at Elon with a 0.89 goals allowed average and became only the 11th player in Southern Conference history to be named all-conference each year of his career. Irwin was a two-time NSCAA All-South Region honoree and was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America team as both a junior and senior. The keeper was also a finalist for the 2010 Lowe's Senior Class Award, an award which honors men's soccer's top senior with notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. He helped the Phoenix to a 2008 regular-season conference title with an unbeaten league mark.

Capital City competes in the Canadian Soccer League and the club's season begins on May 20th with a 7 p.m. game against Toronto Croatia.
