SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Danielle Lafferty has been selected as the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Georgia Southern's Allie Miles has been honored as the Pitcher of the Week for all games April 18-24. The selections are made by the league office.

Lafferty, a junior from Bear, Del., helped the Phoenix to a 3-1 record on the week, including a conference series sweep over Western Carolina.  In the series finale against the Catamounts, the Elon shortstop hit a two-run walk-off home run with two outs to give the Phoenix a come-from-behind 7-6 win.  In four games over the week, Lafferty batted .636 and knocked in seven runs while scoring twice.  She ended the week with a .615 on-base percentage while slugging .909.

Miles, a Dacula, Ga., native, did not allow an earned run for the second consecutive week.  In her two appearances against UNCG, Miles struck out 19 hitters, gave up just three hits and earned two victories.  In the second game of the Friday doubleheader, Miles pitched a six-inning complete-game shutout while fanning 15 hitters, just two shy of the Georgia Southern record.  Miles pitched four shutout innings in relief to pick up the win and has now pitched 25 straight frames without an earned run.  It is the second straight week Miles has earned this honor.

Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State's Michelle Lighton, College of Charleston's Kelsey Hodgson, Furman's Morgan Hughey, Georgia Southern's Kayla Brooks, Samford's Robyn Harmon and Chattanooga's Tiffany Baker.

Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Appalachian State's Caitlin Wainright, Elon's Lauren Taylor, Samford's Kayla Burris and Chattanooga's Nikki Waters.
