CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The College of Charleston and Furman will square off for the 2011 Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championships Saturday after both teams won semifinal matchups Friday morning.? CofC swept Samford, 4-0, while Furman defeated UNCG, 4-1, at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The top-seeded Cougars (20-7) took the doubles point from No. 4 Samford to start the match.? After the two teams split at No. 2 and No. 3, the doubles point hinged on the top spot.? CofC's Emma Hayman and Irene Viana held off Samford's Lindsey Mallory and Taylor Morgan, 8-6, to give the Cougars the early lead.

Hayman posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Andrie Meiring at No. 2 singles to give the Cougars a 2-1 cushion in the match.? Kelly Kambourelis knocked off Rebecca Kirven, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 before Christin Newman's 6-3, 6-4 victory over Morgan at No. 1 clinched the match for College of Charleston.? The Bulldogs finished the season at 18-5.?

The No. 3 Paladins rallied after losing the doubles point which lasted nearly an hour and a half.? Furman won the first set of all six singles matches, including a 6-4, 6-2 win by Lauren Kline over Stephanie MacFarlane at No. 3 singles which tied the match.? Monica Arguello, the 2011 Player of the Year, knocked off Niltooli Wilkins, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to push the Paladins ahead, 2-1.? Straight set wins by Margaret Boyette and Amanda Murray at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, gave Furman the 4-0 margin over the second-seeded Spartans.

Furman and College of Charleston return to the Champions Club Saturday at 10:00a.m. for the final match.
