BOONE, N.C.- With the record-breaking 2010-11 season having come to a close for Appalachian State University women's basketball, the Apps remained busy, as the Mountaineers volunteered their time and services to numerous community service projects throughout the course of the semester.

Like every year, the Black and Gold first donated their time to help out with Celebrity Serve. Celebrity Serve is an annual fundraiser for a local charity in the Boone area in which all the proceeds from local restaurants go to a designated charity. This year's selected charity was OASIS. OASIS is dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault in Watauga County. The women's basketball squad volunteered at both Troy's Diner in Boone, and at Galileo's restaurant, acting as servers and waitresses to paying customers. The team also helped around the two restaurants where their help was needed.

As a part of ASU's initiative to help campus be clean and promote taking care of the planet, the team also took part in the campus cleanup. The entire team walked around Appalachian's campus with trash bags and rakes, picking up pieces of garbage in an effort to keep ASU clean and looking nice.

One of the team's major charitable efforts took place at Parkway Elementary School. As a part of Relay for Life activities, the women's basketball squad played against a local middle school boy's team in front of Parkway Elementary students, parents, members of the community and fans.

Lastly, the squad donated their time at Appalachian's March for Babies, which took place last Sunday, April 17. In conjunction with the High Country chapter of the March of Dimes, the team and numerous other athletic squads participated in thee third annual March for Babies, an event geared to assisting mothers to reach full-term pregnancies and to help fund researching the problems that threaten the health of babies.

The Apps all walked one lap around the warning track of Smith Stadium's Beaver Field, and then the team helped to oversee various on-field activities for the children in attendance.

The Apps wrap up their postseason activities and conditioning in the next two weeks before heading home for summer break.
