Arguello Named Player of the Week

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman's Monica Arguello has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 11-17.  Arguello cruised to straight-sets wins in singles play and was 1-1 in doubles competition last week as the Paladins earned conference wins over Western Carolina (7-0) and Davidson (6-1).  The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Arguello ran her singles winning streak to 10 matches with a pair of wins last week.  The Lakeland, Fla., native defeated Western Carolina's Izabella Glinska 6-1, 6-2 and downed Davidson's Stephani Synn 7-6, 6-2.  Arguello finished the spring 17-4 at No. 1 singles, including a 10-0 record in league play.

Furman's team of Arguello and Jennifer Betts went 1-1 at No. 3 doubles last week.  They knocked off Western Carolina's Glinska and Karen Jimenz, 8-1 before falling to Davidson's Synn and Alison Rauh, 8-3.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Bryn Khoury and Samford's Andrie Meiring.
