Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon junior Amy Salek has been named Southern Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week while Appalachian State senior Rebecca Hazeltine was named the SoCon Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for their performances for all meets, April 8-10.  The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

Salek, a junior from Wyckoff, N.J., ran a personal best in the 400m with a time of 54.68 at the Duke Invitational.  Her mark currently leads the SoCon and set the Elon school record.  Salek also anchored the 4 x 400m relay that placed third at the meet and set the Elon record with a time of 3:46.75.  The relay time is the second fastest conference mark this season.

Hazeltine, a Weddington, N.C., native, placed second in the high jump at the Mountains vs. Beaches meet with a jump of 5'8.75."  Her jump leads the SoCon and ranks her 13th in the NCAA East Region.

Other top performers this week included:

Appalachian State junior Asia Dunlap - Won the 800m with a time of 2:13.01 at the Mountains vs. Beaches meet.

College of Charleston freshman Dena O'Brien - Ran a personal best 9:28.25 in the 3,000m to finish first at the Duke Invitational.

The Citadel sophomore Micah Wessinger - Set a school record in the 800m with a time of 2:12.01 at the Duke Invitational.

Samford senior Morgan Tyler - Ran a conference leading time of 1:02.40 in the 400m hurdles at the Florida State Invitational.
