SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNCG's Orcun Seyrek has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 28-March 6. Seyrek held the Spartans earn a 6-1 win over Wofford on Saturday as the Spartans won their SoCon opener for the third consecutive season. The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.
The Southern Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in 2009, Seyrek defeated Wofford's Tinus Van Wyk (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 singles for UNCG. The Spartans changed their doubles lineup prior to the match and paired Seyrek with Timion Meijs at the top doubles position. The UNCG tandem claimed an 8-4 victory over Wofford's Van Wyk and Stuart Robinson.
Seyrek is 5-4 in singles play this spring, with all of his matches coming at the No. 1 position. He has won his last two singles matches for the Spartans who are 6-3 this season.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Davidson's Calum Gee, Furman's Sawyer Duncan and Chattanooga's Roberto Vieira.
