Game 4: No. 1 Appalachian State 73, No. 8 Davidson 63

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Top seed Appalachian State used a 12-4 run midway through the second half to pull away from eighth-seed Davidson, 73-63, in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Mountaineers, who lead the SoCon in assists, dished out 26 assists on 31 made baskets.
Appalachian State (24-5) had all of its all-conference selections in double-figures. Defensive Player of the Year Anna Freeman led all scorers with 21 points, followed by sophomore Ashlen Dewart with 13 and Player of the Year Sam Ramirez with 11. Freeman also recorded five steals while Ramirez tallied five assists.
Davidson's all-conference forward Sophia Aleksandravicius was held scoreless with only three rebounds in the first-half. After picking up two early fouls, Aleksandravicius spent nearly 12 minutes on the bench. During that stretch, Davidson was outscored by 12 and trailed 35-25 at intermission.
The Wildcats (14-17) rallied in the second half to close the Mountaineer lead to within a point on several occasions, but Davidson could never take the lead and control of the game.
Aleksandravicius finished the game with 11 points and seven rebounds while Davidson forward Kristen Johnson led the Wildcats with 20 points and six rebounds.
Up next for Appalachian State is the winner of No. 4 seed Furman and No. 5 seed Elon on Sunday at noon in the first semifinal. That game will be broadcast live on SportSouth.
Game 4: No. 2 Samford 57, No. 10 Western Carolina 48

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In the first women's quarterfinal game of the Southern Conference Tournament, second-seeded Samford knocked out No. 10 seed Western Carolina, 57-48.
The Bulldogs were led by all-conference selection Savannah Hill's 17 points, 14 of which came in the first-half. Senior all-conference guard Emily London added another 15 points for the Bulldogs. London, the nation's leading free throw shooter, was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to seal the victory down the stretch.
Behind the best scoring defense in the conference, Samford held Western Carolina to 48 points on 33 percent shooting from the field (17-for-51).
Samford used a 16-2 run late in the first half to take a 32-25 halftime lead and take control of the game. Western Carolina closed within three points early in the second half, but could not get any closer.
Caitlin Hollifield led all Catamount scorers with 14 points. Western Carolina finishes the season at 9-22.
Samford (23-7) will take on the winner of the No. 3 seed Chattanooga Lady Mocs and the No. 11 seed Wofford Terriers on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the second semifinal.
