MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team swept its doubleheader against South Carolina State in dominant fashion as the Cougars enforced the eight-run-rule twice in 8-0 and 15-0 wins at Patriots Point on Tuesday evening.
CofC (21-12) had 23 hits in the two games and limited SC State (4-29) to just three.
Alexa Datko threw her second no-hitter of the season in the opener as she pitched all five innings perfectly barring one Cougar fielding miscue. It is her second no-hitter in four days. Datko struck out nine batters as well.
Stephanie Saylors pitched four innings of the second game and allowed just one hit and struck out 11 of the 13 batters she faced. Kylie Day pitched the final inning of the game and surrendered just one hit as well.
Kristy Giragosian was 4-for-5 between the two games with three RBIs and three runs scored. Amanda Lonergan and Kelsey Hodgson each had three RBIs on the day as well.
Carly Corthell had a hit in both games to extend her hit streak to 10 consecutive games and 25 out of 26.
In the first game, Katie Pesature was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Lonergan was 3-for-4 in the second game with three RBIs.
Maria Zavala recorded her first collegiate base hit when she cracked an RBI double into the gap in the left center in the second game.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, March 31 with a single game against No. 1 Alabama at Patriots Point at 6 p.m.

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball (17-20) ran into a strong Jacksonville (24-12) pitching staff on Tuesday (March 29th) afternoon at Eagle Field. The Dolphins picked up two wins over the Eagles, 4-0 and 8-2, to end a two-game Georgia Southern winning streak in the series.
The Dolphins took first blood in game one with pairs of runs in the first and second innings. Jacksonville opened the game with a triple and a double to score the game's first run and posted its second on a dropped fly ball with one out in the inning. In the second frame, JU laced a two-out double down the left field line to plate two runners for a 4-0 Dolphin lead.
Freshman Allie Miles entered the game to pitch in the second inning. She shut down the Jacksonville offense and tossed five and a third innings of no-hit ball with six strikeouts.
Jacksonville's starting pitcher, Olivia Kline, allowed just three Eagle hits as she went the distance to pick up her 10th win of the season.
In the day's second game, Jacksonville took advantage of an Eagle error in the third inning to score three in the frame. A two-run home run in the fifth inning gave the Dolphins a 5-0 lead which grew to eight on a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Jacksonville's offense recorded 10 hits in game two while the Eagles mustered four hits including three in the two-run sixth inning.
Junior Jorie Walker scored Georgia Southern's first run of the game in the sixth off a bases-loaded ground out by Andrea Tarashuk. Senior Marie Fogle came home on Mackenzie Williams' RBI single to left field to cut the deficit to 8-2.
The Eagles play host to Samford this weekend for a three-game Southern Conference series with a doubheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
On Saturday, April 2nd, the Georgia Southern Softball team will support the ongoing fight against breast cancer with a Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford softball team dropped its midweek doubleheader with Kennesaw State Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs fell, 13-1, in five innings in the first game before dropping the second game 9-3.
Samford falls to 7-27 overall while Kennesaw State improves to 18-12.
Kennesaw State scored in every inning in the first game of the evening, starting with two runs in the top of the first inning. Bianca Durant scored the first run as she advanced home when Brittany Moore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Next, Catherine Tarvin walked with the bases loaded to bring home Ashlee Burkett.
Samford scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning when Amanda Jordan grounded out to the shortstop, with runners on second and third and two outs, to drive in Robyn Harmon from third base.
The Owls added another run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Sharon Swanson that brought in Durant from third base. Then, KSU extended its lead to 6-1 in the top of the third with a three-RBI double by Durant. The Owls plated four runs in the fourth inning with a two-run home run by Jessica Cross, an RBI single by Tarvin and a sacrifice fly by Sikes to drive in Tarvin.
Three runs in the top of the fifth sealed the win for the Owls as Cross homered to right field to clear the bases. Kennesaw State won game one, 13-1.
Terry had the Bulldogs' only hit of the game while Harmon scored their only run as Jordan drove her in. Harmon (1-9) took the loss in the circle, giving up 12 earned runs on 14 hits in 4.1 innings of play. Waters pitched the final two outs of the game.
Five KSU players each had two hits including Sara Sikes, Durant, Burkett, Swanson and Cross. Cross also led in RBI with five, followed by Durant with three and Tarvin with two. Cross (8-4) earned the win, giving up just one unearned run on one hit with five strikeouts and four walks. Amanda Henderson pitched the final inning, recording one strikeout and giving up one hit.
Scoring in the second game was slow going, as neither team scored until the fourth inning. KSU put up three runs in the top of the inning with back-to-back home runs by Burkett and Swanson and an RBI double by Stephanie Phillips.
The Owls took a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning when Phillips hit a three-run double to left field. Samford cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the inning as Allison Reynolds sparked a two-out rally with a home run to right field. Arica Dykes followed with a single before Kayla Shaffer doubled to drive Dykes in for the Bulldogs' second run.
KSU added four more runs in the top of the sixth on a RBI single by Burkett, a two-RBI double by Swanson and an error by the Samford third baseman that drove in Amanda Burns.
Samford tried to get another rally going, rattling off two hits with two outs on the board and a runner on base. However, the Bulldogs could only get one run in as Lakan Smith singled to drive in Fisher from third base. The Owls took game two, 9-3.
Nicole Bobrowski led the Bulldogs at the plate in game two, with a 2-for-3 performance. Six other Bulldogs each had a hit including Shaffer, Fisher, Jordan, Smith, Reynolds and Dykes. Kayla Burris (4-11) took the loss in the circle, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 4.2 innings of work. Bobrowski closed the game, giving up three earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and two walks.
Swanson led the Owls going 5-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Cross followed, going 3-for-4 with two runs while Burkett went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Phillips also went 2-for-4 with five RBI. Tarvin (3-2) earned the win, giving up three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Amanda Henderson pitched the final 1.1 innings, ringing up two strikeouts.
Samford will be in back in action Thursday at it hits the road to take on Belmont in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs then head to Georgia Southern for a weekend conference series before closing out a seven-game road swing at Western Kentucky on Tuesday.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech swept a doubleheader from UNCG on Tuesday, running its winning streak to eight straight with a pair of run-rule victories. The Hokies took game one 13-4 in 6 innings before rallying for an 11-3 win in 5 innings in the nightcap.
The Hokies (26-8) jumped all over UNCG starter Josie Felix (4-6) in game one, pounding out four hits and taking advantage of a UNCG error to plate five runs in the first inning. Virginia Tech fell a double short of the cycle in the inning, as Kat Banks hit a solo home run, Kristen Froehlich had an RBI triple and Dani Anderson and Bkaye Smith had singles in the frame.
UNCG (13-17) answered with three runs in the top of the second to get back in it. After freshman catcher Katelyn Bedwell hit a leadoff single, Heather Robb advanced her to second. The Hokies elected to try to nail Bedwell on the play but were unsuccessful, putting runners on first and second with no one out. April Langley reached on an infield single to load the bases, and Aisha Figueroa's infield single scored Bedwell with the Spartans' first run of the day. Another run came in on a Kristen Gabel groundout, and Jordan Jewett stroke an RBI single up the middle to make it a 5-3 contest.
The Hokies got a two-run single from Betty Rose in the bottom half of the second, then plated two more in the third on Froehlich's two-run homer. VT added another run in the fifth to make it 10-3 before Eileen Horsmon's RBI single brought in UNCG's final run of the contest.
Virginia Tech got a walk-off three-run homer from Anderson in the bottom of the sixth to put the mercy rule into effect.
Felix allowed 13 runs - nine earned - one 10 hits and 11 walks. Kenzie Roark (11-5) picked up the win for the Hokies, allowing four runs, three of them earned, on nine hits and two walks.
Jewett and Bedwell had two hits each to lead UNCG at the dish. Anderson was 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored for the Hokies.
UNCG came out firing on all cylinders to open game two, jumping out to a 3-0 lead through 2 ½ innings of play.
Back-to-back doubles from Gabel and Jewett to open the game made it 1-0 after the first inning, and RBI singles from Horsmon and Toni MacReynolds made it a 3-0 game in the third and knocked starter Ashton Ward from the game.
VT ace Jasmin Harrell came on to stop the bleeding, and allowed just one hit the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, the Hokies got a run back in the bottom of the third on Rose's run-scoring single, then blew the game open with five runs in the fourth. Three straight one-out walks loaded the bases for Banks and knocked starter Raeanne Hanks from the game, and Banks greeted reliever Cory Mattson with a grand slam to left field. Rose added an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.
The Hokies put up another 5-spot in the fifth to once again put the mercy rule into effect. Anderson and Marra Hvozdovic had two-run singles in the frame.
Hanks (2-2) was tagged for the loss, as she was charged with four runs on five hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings. Mattson allowed seven runs on five hits and five walks in an inning and a third.
Harrell (13-2) picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief.
Banks was 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead VT at the plate. Four different players hit hits for UNCG.
UNCG returns to action this weekend at Western Carolina. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. followed by a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
