Humblet Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's Alain Humblet has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 21-27.  Humblet was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles play as the Mountaineers picked up league victories over UNCG (6-1) and Chattanooga (5-2).  Appalachian State has now won seven of its last eight matches.  The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Humblet held off UNCG's Timion Meijs at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6), and came away with a three-set victory over Chattanooga's Chris Smith, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.  Humblet improved his record to 8-4 this spring and has gone 7-4 at No. 2 singles.  The Montreal, Canada, native is 3-1 in conference play.

Teamed with Philip Kloc at No. 1 doubles, the Mountaineers' pair defeated UNCG's Meijs and Orcun Seyrek, 9-7, and posted an 8-3 victory over Chattanooga's Smith and Roberto Vieira.  Kloc and Humblet are 12-1 this spring and have won their last 10 matches together.  They are a perfect 4-0 in conference doubles matches.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Elon's Alberto Rojas, Georgia Southern's Juan Melian Puigventos and UNCG's Jacob Wright.
