BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis claimed its second straight Southern Conference win Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win at Chattanooga. ASU's win improves its record to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference while UTC drops to 7-10 and 2-3 in league play.

The Mountaineers played to its strengths early on in the match, as it claimed the doubles point by winning 2-of-3 matches.

One of the SoCon's top pairs in Alain Humblet and Philip Kloc cruised to an easy 8-3 win over Chris Smith and Roberto Vieira at the number one pairing while Alex Markov and Sebastien King tangled with Stephen Crofford and Jackson Tresnan at the No. 2 slot to pull out an 8-5 victory. Andrew McKinnon and Ezekiel Sansing would lose ASU's only doubles match 8-5 at the three position.

Appalachian continued its dominance in singles play by winning 4-of-6 matches to pull out the 5-2 win.

King and McKinnon grasped the Black and Gold's next two points by winning their matches in straight sets at the four and five position. King defeated William Disterdick 6-1, 7-6 while McKinnon won 6-4, 7-6.

At the No. 1 slot, Markov had a rough day against Vieira, as he dropped the match 7-5, 6-1.

Humblet had an impressive comeback at the number two position against Smith. The Canadian dropped the first set 5-7 but would rebound to win the second and third fairly easily, 6-4, 6-4.

Kloc dropped a tough match at the three slot after winning the first set 7-5 against Tresnan. The Moc would comeback in the second set with a 6-1 win and then pull out a 7-6 triumph in the third.

Matt Saltsgaver capped off the Mountaineer's day by winning a close match at the six pairing. The freshman won the first 7-5 and lost the second 7-6. His opponent Stephen Crofford would pull out of the competition in the third set due to injury.
