Cougars Blank Paladins, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. - In a contest with three three-set matches, the College of Charleston defeated Furman, 7-0, in Southern Conference men's tennis action at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. on Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars won two out of three doubles matches to open the match and win the doubles point.  Lukas Koncilia and Kyle Parker defeated Paladin senior Sawyer Duncan and sophomore Andrew Mellow, 8-5, in the top doubles match-up, while Tom Delme and Stephen Hardy teamed up for an 8-2 win over senior Andrei Chvetsov and sophomore Tyler Droll in the second doubles match.  Furman racked up a win in the third doubles match, with freshmen Alex Christ and Joel Cook combining to defeat Mickael Trintignac and Mickael Boyer, 8-7 (7-5).

In singles action, Koncilia defeated Duncan in a tight three -set match, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, in the top contest.  At number two singles, Trintignac beat Mellow, 7-6, 6-2, and Delme defeated Chvetsov, 6-3, 6-4 in the number three singles match.  Parker posted a close, 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 win over Christ at number four singles, and Boyer notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Droll in the fifth singles match-up.  In a close number six match, Hardy defeated Cook, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

"College of Charleston has a very fine team," said Paladin head coach Paul Scarpa following the match.  "We're making strides to turn this season around, and today's close matches showed our improvement.  Hopefully, we'll finish the season strong."
