GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The honors continue for Furman pitcher Dylan Cole, who today was named Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week by College Baseball Insider.com.
Cole, a sophomore right-hander from Spartanburg, S.C., figured prominently in each of the Paladins' four games last week, appearing in each contest and going 1-0 with three saves (0.00 ERA) in helping Furman to a 4-2 victory over nationally fourth-ranked and defending national champion South Carolina and three-game SoCon series sweep of Wofford. He combined to work five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while recording five strikeouts. Opponents hit .176 against him.
He notched the first of his three saves for the week in last Tuesday's triumph over South Carolina (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K). On Friday he picked up his first collegiate victory in a 3-2, 12-inning decision versus Wofford (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 K), and on Saturday notched his second save in the Paladins' 4-2 win over the Terriers (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 K). The former Dorman High standout bagged his third save of the week in Sunday's 3-2 win (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K) over Wofford that completed FU's series sweep.
Cole, who last year batted .258 with eight home runs and 31 RBI in 49 starts at catcher, is 1-0 with five saves and a 0.71 ERA this year.
