Mayer, Elon Finish Seventh at C&F Bank Intercollegiate
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Mayer followed up Saturday's round of 75 with a Sunday score of 77 to help lead the Elon Phoenix women's golf team to a seventh-place finish in the field of 22 teams at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate.
Mayer's total of 152 placed her in a tie for seventh among the 112 golfers in the field.
In a tie for 25th with a two-round score of 160 (79-81) was Martyna Mierzwa while Shannon Prunty finished in a tie for 33rd with a mark of 162 (80-82). Rounding out the scoring for the Phoenix was Lindsey Thomka who tied for 54th with a two-round score of 166 (81-85).
Elon's Tara McFadden withdrew during her second round.
Led by individual champion Seo Hee Moon (66-76--142), Yale took home the team title with a two-round score of 606 (296-310). They defeated second-place St. John's (308-308--616) by 10 strokes.
The rest of the top five consisted of Penn (315-310--625), Bucknell (319-312--631), Penn State (322-312--634) and Old Dominion (317-317--634).
Elon will travel to Crystal River, Fla. to participate in the UC Spring Invitational beginning on March 25.
Xu, Apps Lead Low Country Through Round One
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Yue Xu shot a 74 (+3) to tie for first place at the Low Country Intercollegiate and lead Appalachian State University women's golf to the team lead through Sunday's opening round. The Mountaineers shot a 314 (+30) to rank one stroke ahead of Gardner-Webb.
Rumbidzai Masamvu sits in a tie for third place at 76 (+5) and Kristina Boo also ranks in the tournament's top 10 at 78 (+7), in ninth place.
Senior Kerri Dice shot an 86 (+15) to tie for 47th on the 5,853-yard Moss Creek South Course, and Mimi Burke finished one stroke behind in a tie for 51st.
Competing individually, Brittany Zachrich ranks 30th with an 83 (+12).
Samford's Anna Heim stands tied with Xu for first while the Bulldogs rank third, just two strokes behind the Apps.
Also competing in the Southern Conference, Wofford is fourth at 321 (+37) and The Citadel is 14th at 356 (+72).
Round two begins Monday at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Rankin Led Terriers on Day One of Low Country Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Wofford's Alex Rankin fired a team-low 77 in the opening round of the Low Country Intercollegiate at Moss Creeks' South Course, a par-72 5,853 yard course, Sunday morning.
Meredith Few followed with a 78, and Sarah Hurt shot an 81. Anne Marie Covar rounded out the Terrier scorers with an 85.
App State's Yue Xu and Samford's Anna Heim hold a two shot lead over Western Kentucky's Jo Anna Smith, Gardner-Webb's Meghan Allum and Lauren Smith, and App State's Rumbidzai Masamvu, who all fired a 76 in the opening round.
App State sits in first with 314 strokes after round one, with Gardner-Webb (315) and Samford (316) rounding out the top three.
