WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., today. The Lady Mocs fall to 5-6 on the year while the Tars, ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division II, improve to 11-3.
Since this was on the home court of a Division II team, each doubles match counted as one point, instead of one doubles point to the winner of two matches. That did not affect the outcome since UTC came out on top in just one of the three doubles contests.
Junior Shaina Singh and sophomore Jenna Nurik won their No. 2 bout (8-6) over Lisa Loft and Ashley Rosenberg. It is the fifth-straight win for the Lady Mocs tandem as they improved to 13-5 on the year. They are 7-3 since settling into the No. 2 slot this spring.
Chattanooga only got two singles wins, including Nurik at No. 1 and junior Charlotte Bossy at No. 5. Nurik downed Roshni Luthra (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) in a three-setter to improve to 11-10 overall and 6-5 at No. 1. Luthra was ranked No. 26 in the country in DII.
Bossy won for the third time in the last four matches with her (6-2, 6-4) straight-set win over Ashley Rosenburg. Bossy is improves to 4-2 in the No. 5 position.
The Lady Mocs return home for three matches next week. UTC opens with a visit from Lee University on Wednesday, March 23, at 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.). Wofford visits on Saturday, March 26, at 1:00 p.m. while Furman comes to town on Sunday, March 27, at 2:00 p.m. The matches with the Flames and Terriers will be at the UTC Tennis Courts while the Lady Mocs will face the Paladins at the Champions Club.
