DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's tennis team returned to the courts for the first time since Feb. 20 and were on the wrong end of two 7-0 defeats, including dropping their Southern Conference-opening match vs. Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats (4-9, 0-1 SoCon) closed out the doubleheader day with a setback to Evansville (7-4), the first time both teams had faced each other.
The lone win for Davidson vs. the Eagles (5-5, 1-0 SoCon) in the first match came from the No. 2 doubles team of Alison Rauh and Brites Moniz-Soares. The duo earned their fifth win together on the season when they scored an 8-6 win.
GSU swept all six singles spots with Katherine Dicconson being the closest to scoring a win for the 'Cats. She battled Alessandra Dzuba at No. 6 to a 7-5, 6-3 defeat.
The second match vs. Evansville saw the Purple Aces sweep through all three doubles spots and then take all six singles position, allowing no more than two games in each set in five of the six matches.
Freshman Frizzi Bschorer, at No. 4, forced a third set when she earned a 6-3 win in the second set, but fell, 6-2, in the final set of the match to Pin Sorensen to give the Aces the 7-0 win.
Boise State 7, Furman 0
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Boise State blanked Furman, 7-0, in women's tennis action at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. The Broncos swept the singles and doubles matches for the win, with two Paladins forcing a third set or tiebreaker in the match.
Lauren Megale defeated #63 Monica Arguello, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7) at number one singles, and Sonia Klamczynska beat rookie Margaret Boyette, 6-4, 6-0, in the second singles match. Stephanie Jasper posted a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over sophomore Lauren Kline at number three singles, and Marlena Pietzuch was victorious over freshman Amanda Murray at number four singles, recording a 7-6, 6-2 win. Morgan Basil beat sophomore Michele Stanford, 6-3, 6-4 in the fifth singles match, and Sandy Vo notched a 7-6, 6-2 victory over junior Susan Bitetti at number six singles.
In doubles action, Megale and Pietzuch combined for an 8-4 win over Murray and Boyette at number one doubles, while Jasper and Vo defeated Stanford and Kline, 8-2, in the second doubles match. Basil and Klamczynska beat Arguello and Jennifer Betts, 8-4, in the third doubles competition.
Furman (4-6) will conclude its road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against UNLV in Las Vegas.
Samford 6, UT-Martin 1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford University women's tennis team picked up a pair of non-conference victories Saturday as the Bulldogs earned a doubleheader sweep against the UT Martin Skyhawks 6-1 and the Murray State Racers 7-0 in an afternoon-long competition held at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the pair of victories, Samford (9-1) increased its winning streak to three straight matches and remained undefeated at home this season. The Bulldogs have compiled a perfect 6-0 record at the Samford Tennis Center in 2011.
Against UT Martin (4-6), Samford lost the match-opening doubles point, but then swept the singles competition to earn a decisive 6-1 team victory. In singles play, the Bulldogs' Taylor Morgan, Andrie Meiring, Madelie Janse Van Rensburg, Kristin Lewis, Rebecca Kirven and Lindsey Mallory all registered straight-set victories in the win.
In the second match of Saturday's twin bill, Samford breezed past Murray State (3-8) by winning all nine contests of the competition.
The Bulldogs swept doubles play and then cruised to straight-set victories in five of the six singles matches. Samford's Morgan, Meiring, Janse Van Rensburg, Kirven and Lewis all tallied quick straight-set wins in the singles competition.
Lindsey Mallory, the Bulldogs' talented junior from Louisville, Ky., competed in one of the closest matches of the day Saturday as she outlasted Murray State's Carla Suga, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, in the No.6 singles contest. With the come-from-behind victory, Mallory improved her record in singles play this season to 8-1.
Samford's Janse Van Rensburg and Lewis both boast the team's best singles marks this year with identical tallies of 9-1, while Mallory sits at 8-1 and Kirven owns an 8-2 record in dual play.
In doubles play this season, the Bulldogs' combination of Lindsey Mallory and Morgan owns the team's best record with a mark of 7-3. Samford's aforementioned doubles tandem has improved its winning streak to three-consecutive matches.
The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action March 19 at 2 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs begin a two-match road trip to New Orleans, La., against the University of New Orleans Privateers. Samford will then face off against Tulane at noon on March 20.
