SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga's Whitney Hood has been named the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games played February 22-27.

The junior from Meridian, Miss., recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Western Carolina.  The Lady Mocs' win over the Catamounts secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament for UTC.  After scoring only six points in the first half, she finished the game strong to add another 12 points and lead all scorers.  Hood leads the SoCon in scoring with 19.2 ppg and field goal percentage (.536).

It is the third time this season Hood has been honored with the award.  She was also named January's player of the month in the conference. 

Chattanooga next takes the court for the Southern Conference Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 5 in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The Lady Mocs will take on the winner of the UNCG versus Wofford game.

Other top performers in the week of play were Appalachian State's Sam Ramirez, Davidson's Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon's Lei Lei Hairston, Furman's Kelly O'Connor and Georgia Southern's Meredyth Frye.
