SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Philip Nemec has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 21-27. The Phoenix posted wins over Lees-McRae (7-0) and George Washington (5-2) last week. The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.
Nemec was perfect in singles play last week and did not drop a set. Competing at No. 2 singles against Lees-McRae, the Calgary, Alberta native downed LMC's Travis VanHoy, 6-2, 6-2. Later that afternoon Nemec moved up to the No. 1 singles position and topped George Washington's Ugur Atalay, 6-1, 6-3.
The senior teamed with Chase Helpingstine at No. 1 doubles against George Washington and topped Atalay and Erik Hannah, 8-3. Nemec and Helpingstine are ranked No. 56 in the country and are 5-1 on the season.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Davidson's Chris Mark, Georgia Southern's Marco Osorio, Samford's Carson Kadi, and Wofford's Alan Donald.
