Mountaineers Top Lees-McRae, 5-0

BOONE, N.C. - The Appalachian State University women's tennis team knocked off Lees-McRae 5-0 on Tuesday.

The Mountaineers (3-2) swept the Bobcats (0-1) in doubles play to claim the ever important doubles point.

At the No. 1 duo, Ellie Linsell and Gisela Fernandez pulled out a close victory against Christine Vanard and Maria Andrade, 9-7. Jennifer Ansari and Kim-Lae Dinh played at the No. 2 spot and trumped Lyndsay Peagram and Kelsey Hiatt 8-2.

Amie Cloer and Heather Prior easily won their doubles match 8-1.

In singles play, all Appalachian players won in two sets, except for Cloer and Prior, who had their matches called off due to ASU already having the victory.

Linsell won at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-0 over LMC's Vanard.

Ansari defeated Peagram at the No. 2 seat 6-0, 6-2. Fernandez and Dinh followed suit by making short work of their opponents 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0.

The Apps return to action on Saturday, February 12, as it travels to face UNC Asheville at 3 p.m.
