SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern guard Meredyth Frye has been selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games played February 1-7.
The sophomore from Fredericksburg, Va., averaged 16 points over the week to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 record with wins over UNCG and Elon. Frye's biggest points of the week came in a 68-67 win over the Spartans, as she went coast-to-coast in under four seconds to hit a game-winning layup as time expired. Her clutch shooting continued the next game against Elon, as Frye hit four free-throws in the final 20 seconds in overtime to give the Eagles a 71-69 win over the Phoenix.
Georgia Southern returns to action on Feb. 14 when it travels to Cullowhee, N.C., to take on Western Carolina.
