Song, Jones Lead Davidson Men's Track on First Day of Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - JinHan Song and Bryce Jones posted some of the top sprint times in Davidson men's track and field history on the first day of the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennesee State in the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

JinHan Song turned in the fifth-fastest 400-meter dash in Wildcats' history, crossing the line in 50.69 seconds. He also led Davidson in the 60-meter dash in 7.22 seconds.

Bryce Jones led in the 200-meter dash with the sixth-fastest performance in Davidson history in 22.98 seconds. Lee Dorsey also cracked the 'Cats top-10 performance list with a time of 51.54.

Davidson will continue to compete Saturday in the middle-distance, distance and field events.

OSITELU LEADS PALADIN TRACK & FIELD TEAMS AT ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Senior Monique Ositelu placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:18.83 to lead the Furman indoor track and field teams in the first day of the 33rd annual Niswonger Foundation Track and Field Invitational/KTC High School Indoor Track Classic, which is being held on the David E. Walker Track in Johnson City, Tenn., this weekend.  The two-day event features over 1,500 athletes from almost 90 teams, including several teams from the Atlantic Sun, Big South, and Southern Conference.

In other women's events, senior Starr Belmont posted a time of 27.23 for 96th place in the 200m prelims, and junior Erin McChristian recorded a personal-best time of 64.07 in the 400m preliminaries, placing 100th.

Sophomore Raul Rodriquez was the only member of the Paladin men's team to compete on Friday, placing 87th in the preliminaries of the 200m with a time of 23.13 and 80th in the 60m (7.28).  

The final day of competition will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. 

UNCG Wraps Up Day One at the Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Spartans had just four athletes compete on Friday as UNCG concluded the first day of the 33rd Annual Niswonger Invitational in the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.  

UNCG only competed in the 200 meters on the men's and women's side, but will be running in the 800 meters, mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters on Saturday.

Jelani Bonner was the top runner on the men's side as he finished the 200 meters in a time of 24.99. Bill Kane also ran in the event and finished in 27.08.

On the women's team, Emily Morris ran a time of 29.06 in the 200, while Morgan Mitchell wasn't far behind in a time of 29.15. 

The Spartans will continue their stay at the Niswonger Invitational on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., while Ashley Schnell will be competing at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. as she runs in the 3,000 meters at 4:20 p.m.

Samford Men's Sprinters Show Out In First Day Of Niswonger Invite

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. ---- The Samford University track and field team concluded the first day of the Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State University, Friday with two new school records in the men's 200 meters and shot put.

Kyle Kirby broke his own record in the 35-lb. weight for the second time this season and placed in the top three of the event for the third-straight week as well. Kirby posted a toss of 60-11.50 to start the day off for Samford with a school record.

Although no Samford men qualified for the finals in the 200 meters and the 400 meters, there were personal bests all across the board, including one school record. Donald Cooper led the Bulldogs in both events, posting a school record of 22.32 and finishing 23rd in the 200 meters. Alex Richter ran the 200 meters in 22.44 followed by Jonathan Bush with a time 22.96 and Brad Bostic with a time of 23.56.

In the 400 meters, Cooper finished 14th with a time of 50.03 followed by Richter in 22nd place with a time of 50.43. Bush ran the event in 51.89 followed by Bostic with a time of 52.35.

Henry Stevens-Carty placed third in the men's 800-meter invitational with a personal best time of 1:54.23. Scott Cope followed in 12th place with a time of 1:56.64.

Cavan Corcoran led the Bulldog men in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries with a 21st place finish and a time of 8.58. Cooper placed 35th with a time of 8.95 followed by Brandon Bassett in 41st place with a time of 9.10 and Zac Epperson in 56th place with personal best time of 9.50.

In the men's triple jump, Chinedu Amah placed 16th with a leap of 45-03.00 while Bob Elliott II took 22nd place with a mark of 43-07.25.

The 800 meters, high jump and pole vault highlighted the action for the Samford women in the first day of the Invitational. Lauren D'Alessio took second place in the women's 800 meters with a personal best of 2:15.00. Holly Benson followed in eighth place with a time of 2:18.54.

Chenelle Terry won the women's high jump with a mark of 5-07.00 while Emily Allen placed 18th in the triple jump with a leap of 35-09.25.

In the women's pole, Laura Bedsole tied a school record and took fifth place with a personal best of 11-11.75. Mary Barron also placed seventh with a vault of 11-05.75.

Tatum Moffett ran a personal best in the 200-meter preliminaries with a time of 26.35 and the 400 meters with a time of 59.13. Julie McDonald also posted a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 26.96. Leslie Graf ran a time of 27.46 in the 200 meters and 1:03.35 in the 400 meters.

Macy Conger took 16th place in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.38 while McDonald finished 27th with a time of 9.74.

Saturday's action begins at 8 a.m. with the men's and women's 5000 meters followed by the unseeded 3000 meters. The unseeded mile and 800 meters will wrap up the collegiate morning session. Men's long jump and pole vault finals will start at 1 p.m. followed by men's shot put and high jump.

The distance medley will start the evening session followed by the finals of the 400-meter dash, women's long jump and women's 60-meter hurdles. Saturday's events will conclude with the women's and men's 4x400-meter relays at 6:55 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., respectively.

Wessinger, Castagno Successful as The Citadel Concluded Day One of Niswonger

Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - For the second consecutive meet sophomore Micah Wessinger and senior Christopher Castagno led the Bulldogs with highlight performances, as The Citadel track and field teams completed day one at the Niswonger Invitational on Friday, Feb. 4. Hosted by East Tennessee State University, the competition is held at the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center on the David E. Walker Track.

Wessinger earned her second-straight first place finish of the season, this time in the 800m, as she posted a time of 2:14.78, while Castagno again topped the school record in the 35 lb. weight throw. He surpassed his mark from last week with a throw of 57' 11.57" as he finished in fourth place.

Sophomore Brunson Miller finished in sixth place in the 400m posting a time of 48.79, which was enough to advance to the finals on Saturday. Freshman Blane Woodfin also ran in the 400m and finished with a personal-best time of 51.23.

In the same event on the women's side, junior Erinn Carter and freshman Andriana Love finished the race becoming seventh and eighth all-time on The Citadel's top-10 list, respectively. Carter posted a personal best time of 64.92, while Love ran a career best time of 65.40.

In the 200m sophomore Chalita Johnson became No. 4 all-time in program history when she ran a time of 26.88, while freshman Nicole Levermann is now sixth on The Citadel's top-10 list with a time of 27.55. Johnson and Levermann also competed in the 60m dash. Levermann became ninth all-time when she posted a personal best time of 8.40, while Johnson narrowly missed her career-best mark of 8.12 as she finished the race posting a time of 8.18.

For the men, junior Kevin Hardy participated in the 60m dash and finished with a time of 6.98. Junior Christian Graham and sophomore Daniel Till ran in the 200m and both finished with personal-best records. Graham became eighth all-time in The Citadel's top-10 list when he ran a time of 22.44, while Till finished with a time 22.72.

Another College of Charleston Record Falls on Day One in New York

NEW YORK - The College of Charleston women's track & field 4X800-meter relay team set a school record as the Cougars opened competition Friday in the New Balance Invitational.

The 4X800 team of freshman Dana Walsh and juniors Callen Powers, Kristen Wolfe and Alyssa D'Orazio clocked a time of 9:31.37 to etch their names in the school record book.

For Wolfe, it was her second race of the day as she also competed in the 3,000-meter race, running a personal best time of 10:25.91. Her time is sixth best in school history for the indoor event.

Senior Isabel Boersma crossed the finish line in 26.94 seconds for the 200-meter dash. Her time is the fourth best in school history.

Junior Emily Smith set a season-best with a seventh-place performance in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters.

The meet continues today as several more CofC athletes will compete, including freshman Dena O'Brien, who set a school record in the mile (4:59.63) in the Cougars last competition. O'Brien will compete today in the 5,000-meter run.
