Neal, Hyter Named Women's Indoor Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford senior Hillary Neal has been named Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week while Georgia Southern senior Lynndsey Hyter was named the SoCon Women's Indoor Field Athletes of the Week for meets during the weekend of Feb. 18 through Feb. 20.  The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

Neal, a senior from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., broke the Samford school record in the 800 meters at the Tiger Tune-Up in Clemson, S.C.  It was her first meet of the 2011 Indoor season, and the Bulldog middle distance runner set the SoCon mark in the event with a time of 2:10.93.

Hyter, a senior at Georgia Southern, won the triple jump event at the Tiger Tune-Up with a leap of 40-2 ¼.  The Dallas, Texas native also ran an 8.84 in the 60 meters high hurdles.  It was her first hurdle event on the season.  Hyter currently lead the SoCon in both the long jump and triple jump, and she is ranked second in the 60m HH.

Samford and Georgia Southern return this action in the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Clemson, S.C., Feb. 26-27.

Elon junior Amy Salek - Set an Elon record in the 400 meters at the Virginia Tech Challenge with a time of 55.47.

Elon senior Veronica Day - Won the long jump event at the Virginia Tech Challenge with a leap of 19-5, which broke an Elon school record.
