SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Madelie Janse Van Rensburg has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 14-20.  Van Rensburg was a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles competition as the Bulldogs earned wins over Jacksonville State (6-1) and No. 70 North Florida (6-1).  The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

A native of Franschoek, South Africa, Van Rensburg picked up singles wins at the No. 3 position.  She opened the week with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Jacksonville State's Raisa Guasti and earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over North Florida's Melanie Aguirre.

Van Rensburg teamed with sophomore Kristin Lewis at No. 3 doubles.  The Samford duo earned wins over Jacksonville State's Juliana Renesto and Kelly Tomlin (8-1).  They then knocked off North Florida's Alison Viana and Melinda Doak,
8-1 on Saturday afternoon. 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, Elon's Bryn Khoury, Furman's Monica Arguello, UNCG's Nitooli Wilkins, Western Carolina's Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz and Wofford's Emilia Milovanovic.
