SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State freshmen Breanna Alston and Cassie Crawford have been named the Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets during the weekend of Jan. 28 through Jan. 30. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.
Alston, a freshman from Greensboro, N.C., ran a personal best in both the 60 meters and the 200 meters at the University of Kentucky Rod McCray Invitational. Her 60m time of 7.70 and 200m time of 24.78 are currently the top times in the SoCon this season. Alston also placed fourth in the 200m and seventh in the 60m on the all-time Mountaineer Indoor list.
Crawford, an Apex, N.C., native, placed second overall in the pole vault at the University of Kentucky Rod McCray Invitational with a vault of 12-6 ¼. This mark puts Crawford atop the SoCon standings and places her second on the all-time Appalachian State Indoor list.
The Mountaineers next competition is this weekend at the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn., where six other conference schools will be in attendance.

The Citadel sophomore Micah Wessinger - Set a school record in the 600 meters run at the Captain's Invitational at Christopher Newport University with a time of 1:37.68.
Davidson senior Heather Conarroe - Conarroe ran a personal best in the 5000 meters run at the Liberty Invitational. Her time of 17:49 currently leads the conference.
UNCG junior Ashley Schnell - Schnell won the mile at the Liberty Invitational with a time of 5:00.68, beating the rest of the field by 12 seconds.
Samford freshman Ashley Cope - Cope finished third in the pentathlon at the JFR Combined Events Invitational at Clemson with a SoCon leading mark of 3211 points.
Samford sophomore Lauren D'Alessio - D'Alessio won the mile at the JFR Combined Events Invitational at Clemson with a personal best and SoCon leading time of 4:54.25.
Western Carolina senior Janet Carothers - Carothers won the 400 meters at the JFR Combined Events Invitational at Clemson with a time of 55.31.
Wofford freshman Kaitlin Brown - Brown set a Wofford record in the high jump with a leap of 5-3, finishing fourth at the UNC Invitational
