Palos Verdes, Calif. - The Furman women's golf team fired a final round 308 to improve one spot and claim a seventh place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif., on Wednesday.

Sophomores Alexa Rancourt (79-76-74=229) and Laura Wearn (79-70-76=225) posted scores of 74 and 76, respectively, while senior Stefanie Kenoyer (75-77-75=227) shot five-over 75 to help Furman open the spring season with a solid finish against a 13-team field that included nine of the top-40 teams in the nation.

Third-ranked Southern California (290-295-299=884) rallied past rival and second-ranked UCLA to claim the tournament title at +32.  Arizona State (298-294-294=886) placed second with UCLA (296-287-304=887), Pepperdine and Wake Forest rounding out the top five.

The Sun Devils' Carlota Ciganda (73-70-72=215) captured individual medalist honors at +2 finishing two strokes ahead of Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary (+4).

Furman returns to the golf course February 27-28, at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge on Valdosta, Ga.
