Furman's Arguello Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  Furman's Monica Arguello has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through February 13.  Arguello is 2-1 in singles competition for the Paladins and is ranked No. 69 nationally

Playing at No. 1 singles for the Paladins, Arguello knocked off South Carolina's Anya Morgina, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to open the season January 25.  Morgina was ranked #37 entering the match.  After defeating UNC Asheville's Britney Cloer (6-1, 6-1), Arguello dropped her only match of the season to Clemson's Josipa Bek (7-5, 6-4), who is ranked 12th nationally.

The senior from Lakeland, Fla., also teamed with Olivia Maurice at No. 2 doubles and came away with an 8-1 win over UNC Asheville's team of Devon Cavanaugh and Zoe Hamel. 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, Davidson's Brites Moniz-Soares, Elon's Jordan Johnston, Georgia Southern's Ali Beavers, UNCG's Nitooli Wilkins, Samford's Rebecca Kirven and Wofford's Julia Paulson.
