SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Emerald Graham has been tabbed the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Chattanooga's Michelle Fuzzard has been honored as the Pitcher of the Week for all games February 10-13. The selections are made by the league office.
Graham, a senior from Newburgh, Ind., led Elon to a 3-1 record in the Phoenix Leadoff Classic hosted by Elon. Graham finished the weekend with a .538 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.538. The Phoenix outfielder earned seven hits and knocked in 12 runs in seven at bats. Four of her seven hits on the weekend were home runs, including a walk-off home run against Youngstown State on Feb. 13 for a 10-2 win. Graham also had a walk-off sacrifice fly that gave the Phoenix a 4-3 win over Youngstown State on Feb. 12.
In her first career start coming off knee surgery, Chattanooga's Fuzzard threw a complete game four-hitter and struck out three against Florida Atlantic. The junior from Huntington Beach, Calif., came back the next day to throw 5.2 innings against Fordham to pick up a 1-0 win at the Dot Richardson's National Collegiate Softball Invitational in Clermont, Fla. Fuzzard, who recorded two strikeouts in the contest, combined with Kandice Irwin to give Chattanooga its first shutout on the season.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State's Hannah Dow, Georgia Southern's Mackenzie Williams, UNCG's Kaitlin Merkt, Samford's Brianna Chambers, Chattanooga's Natalie Powers and Western Carolina's Erin Foster.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Elon's Lauren Taylor, UNCG's Cory Mattson, Samford's Kayla Burris and Western Carolina's Katie King.
