Freeman Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s Anna Freeman was named the women’s basketball player of the week for December 6, the league office announced today. The Mountaineers went a perfect 2-0 last week in league play. 

In the Mountaineers’ win over Georgia Southern, Freeman led the team in points (25), rebounds (8) and steals (5). The preseason all-conference team member also went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe against the Eagles. 

The junior added 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and four steals as ASU topped Western Carolina 82-46 Monday night.  

Freeman leads the Southern Conference in blocked shots with 16, and is second in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game. 

The Thomasville, N.C., native has recorded four or more steals in five-straight games for Appalachian State. She leads the league in steals with 30, averaging 4.3 per game. 

Freeman and the rest of the Mountaineers will compete in the Asheville Collegiate Basketball Invitational Saturday afternoon before returning to Boone to entertain the College of Charleston Monday. 

Other top performers this week were College of Charleston’s Latisha Harris, Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Sam Coffer, Furman’s Kaitlin Murphy, UNCG’s Jarae Savage and Wofford’s Logan Morris.
