SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga freshman Nick Soto has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competitions from December 14-20.
Soto had a decisive 8-2 win over No. 4 B.J. Futrell in a 30-6 loss at No. 7 Illinois on Sunday. The freshman 133-pounder was leading 3-2 after the first two periods and dominated the final two minutes to score one of two UTC victories in the match.
A true freshman from Spring Hill, Fla., Soto is currently 9-3 on the season. He has won six of his last seven matches, and two of his three losses on the season have come against opponents ranked in the top-10.
Other Nominees: Austin Trotman (Appalachian State), James Cook (Campbell), Odie Delaney (The Citadel) and Kevin Birmingham (Davidson).
