SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s Anna Freeman was named the women’s basketball player of the week for November 23, the league office announced today. The Mountaineers went 2-0 last week with wins over Gardner-Webb (69-41) and East Tennessee State (89-65). The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.
Freeman recorded her 12th career double-double against Gardner-Webb with a career-high 28 points and 14 rebounds.
In ASU’s home opener against East Tennessee State, the Thomasville, N.C., native scored 20 points, four blocked shots and recorded seven steals in 32 minutes of action.
The junior connected on 51 percent (16-of-31) of her field goal attempts last week and was a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line.
With last week’s performance, Freeman has moved into fifth place on Appalachian State career steals list with 182.
The Mountaineers travel to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia State Thanksgiving Classic beginning Friday. ASU will play Eastern Kentucky and Georgia State in the tournament.
Other top performers this week were Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Zora Stephenson, Furman’s Kaitlin Murphy, Georgia Southern’s Janay Wilson, UNCG’s Breonna Patterson, Samford’s Shelby Campbell, Chattanooga’s Kayla Christopher, Western Carolina’s Kalia’Shea Menendez and Wofford’s Morgan Wrightston.
