Furman's Booker Named Women's Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Lashana Booker opened the 2011-12 basketball season with a career-high game and has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games through November 14.

The Spartanburg, S.C., native recorded a career-high 29 points with 10 field goals and six three-pointers.

The senior also had seven rebounds in Furman’s 80-78 overtime loss to Charleston Southern. 

Booker and the rest of the Paladin team will travel to nearby Presbyterian Tuesday before hosting Troy in the team’s home opener on Thursday.

Other top performers in the opening week of play were Appalachian State's Courtney Freeman, College of Charleston’s Mikaela Hopkins, Davidson’s Laura Murray, Elon’s Kelsey Evans, Georgia Southern’s Meredith Frye, Samford’s Jazmine Powers, Chattanooga’s Taylor Hall, Western Carolina’s Rena Wakama and Wofford’s Morgan Wrightson.
