SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNCG senior goalkeeper Peyton Ford has been chosen as the Southern Conference men's soccer player of the week for all matches from October 24-30.
Ford posted consecutive shutouts as the Spartans clinched the SoCon regular season title with victories over Georgia Southern and Elon. The senior became UNCG's career Division I shutouts leader after blanking the SoCon's most potent offensive team, Georgia Southern, 5-0.
He followed that with four saves in the title-clinching, 1-0 win at Elon, which was the Spartans' first victory at Rudd Field in eight years.
A large part of UNCG's successful run in conference play this season, the Jamestown, N.C., native finished the SoCon season with a 0.14 goals-against average, surrendering just one goal in seven league matches.
Other Nominees: Chip Sanders (Davidson) and Martin Ontiveros (Furman).
