Greenville, S.C. -- Furman sophomore Martin Ontiveros has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the Paladins men's soccer team climbed to No. 21 in this week's CSN Top 30 Poll, it was announced on Monday morning.
Ontiveros, a native of Pharr, Texas, scored on a free kick to hand Furman a 1-0 victory at Davidson last Tuesday night before heading in the game-winning goal and assisting on the Paladins' second tally in a 2-0 victory over Wofford in the regular season finale on Friday that secured Furman a home match in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament next Sunday at 6 p.m.
The wins over Davidson and Wofford improved the Paladins to 13-2-4 overall and 4-1-2 in SoCon play. The Paladins, the No. 2 seed for the upcoming SoCon Tournament, will host either College of Charleston or Elon in the quarterfinal round on Sunday.
