SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Kelly Kirby, Elon’s Ali Deatsch, and College of Charleston’s Sloane White have all been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today.

Kirby, a setter/right-side hitter led Furman with a .500 attack percentage in the Paladins sweep of Samford. The senior recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 18 assists.

The Simpsonville, S.C. native leads the team with 307 assists and is second with 131 kills. Kirby is tied for sixth in conference-only matches in service aces, with four.

Deatsch, who is the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, helped Elon finish the week 2-0. The defensive specialist led all Elon players with 16 digs in their sweep of Western Carolina. Deatsch recorded 36 digs over the weekend, averaging 5.14 per set.

The junior from Elmhurst, Ill. leads the conference in service aces (36), and is fourth in digs (322).

White earns Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season. She led the College of Charleston in kills in every match this week and posted a new career-high of 18 kills in the Cougars’ win over Georgia Southern.

The middle blocker from Indianapolis has recorded double digits in kills in seven of the last eight matches.

Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were Meghann Forshey (Appalachian State), Rachael Farrell (The Citadel), Sarah Havel (College of Charleston), Molly Crenshaw (Davidson), Carolyn Nicoletti (Furman), Lauren LaRocque (Georgia Southern), Kellie Orewiler (UNCG), Reagan Styles (Wofford).

Nominated for Freshmen of the Week were Amanda Rudnik (The Citadel), Kris Harris (Elon), Jamie DeRatt (Georgia Southern), Holland Hoefnagel (UNCG), Jordan Timmerman (Western Carolina), Taylor Baird (Wofford).
