Neisler, Havel, Harris Earn Weekly Volleyball Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Elizabeth Neisler, College of Charleston’s Sarah Havel and Elon’s Kris Harris have been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today.

Neisler recorded her highest totals in hitting percentage (.405) and kills (20) in conference play this season against Georgia Southern on Saturday.

The junior outside hitter led the Bulldogs in points this weekend with 35 and currently leads the team in kills (315). She also leads the conference in this category, as she averages 4.14 per set.

The Jacksonville, Ala. native only needs 82 more kills to move into the top ten in single season kills at Samford. 

Havel led the College of Charleston in total blocks in each match over the weekend, including a season-best eight blocks against North Division leader Appalachian State. The Cougars held the Mountaineers to a 0.84 hitting percentage.

The senior middle blocker from Carmel, Ind. has averaged 1.43 blocks per set in conference action and ranks second in the Southern Conference with 1.06 blocks per set.

Harris, who was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 19, tallied 24 kills last week for Elon, and she posted a match-high 12 kills at Wofford. The freshman from Apex, N.C. also led the Phoenix against Furman as she hit .375 with eight kills.

Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week was Alison Blasingame (Appalachian State), Rachael Farrell (The Citadel), Caroline Lemke (Elon), Caroline Adams (Furman), Carolyn Nicoletti (Furman), Kellie Orewiler (UNCG), Moriah Bellissimo (Georgia Southern), Alexis Bauer (Samford), Rebecca Stoltz (Western Carolina) and Reagan Styles (Wofford). 

Nominated for Freshmen of the Week was Lindsey Sauls (Appalachian State), Sloane White (College of Charleston), Ise d’Angelo (The Citadel), Chelsea Evans (UNCG), Jamie DeRatt (Georgia Southern), Michaela Reesor (Samford), Melissa Green (Chattanooga), Caitlin Piechota (Western Carolina) and Taylor Baird (Wofford).
