Play suspended at Palmetto Intercollegiate with Spartans on top
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.-UNCG women's golf owned a seven stroke lead before darkness suspended play during the second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate, Sunday at Oak Point. The second round will conclude Tuesday morning with the third round beginning immediately afterward.
After shooting a 293 during the first round Sunday morning, the Spartans were 1-over par through 15 holes of the second round before play was suspended. UNCG leads Campbell by seven strokes, while Maryland and College of Charleston are tied for third in the 18-team field.
UNCG freshman Fanny Cnops is leading the field at 2-under par. Cnops carded a 70 in the first round was even though 15 holes during the second round.
Cnops is one stroke ahead of teammate Ana Lucia Martinez (-1), who opened with a 72 and is one under par with three holes left in her second round.
Courtney Taylor is tied for 13th at 1-over par with one hole remaining in her second round. Begona Sarabia has four holes left in her second round and is tied for 32nd at 7-over par.
Berglind Bjornsdottir has two holes left in the second round and is tied for 44th at 10-over par.
Elon Women Sixth in Suspended Palmetto Intercollegiate
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- When darkness fell upon Kiawah Island, the Elon women's golf team was sitting in sixth place out of 18 teams participating in the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Sunday. Round two will resume at 8:45 Monday morning with two Phoenix golfers still on the course.
The Phoenix sat at 583 (303-280) prior to the end of competition on Sunday.
Elon's Kristi Ingram completed both of her two rounds and sat fourth when play was ended on Sunday. Ingram carded rounds of 71 and 73 for a mark of 144.
Martyna Mierzwa had played 15 holes of her second round when play was halted. She shot a 78 over her first 18 holes and was sitting on a 61 in round number two. Mierzwa had climbed from a tie for 48th to a tie for 32nd.
In a tie for 38th was Diana Davis. Davis also finished her two rounds and posted a score of 153 (77-76).
The other Phoenix golfer still on the course was Virginia Mayer. Mayer shot a 77 over her first 18 holes and had shot a 70 through 16 holes of round number two. The day ended with her tied for 44th among the 96 golfers in the field.
Lauren Lebak's completed rounds of 79 and 82 for a 161 had her in a tie for 77th.
UNCG posted a 293 in its first round and was at 243 in round two to sit atop the leaderboard.
The Spartans' Fanny Cnops led the field with a 70 in round one and had a 60 through 15 holes in her second round.
Pellegrini Locked In Tie for 13th at Palmetto Intercollegiate
Kiawah Island, S.C. - Citadel underclassmen Erica Pellegrini and Kellie Anderson, who finished first round action with scores of 74 and 77 respectively, anchored the Bulldogs Golf team that stands in 17th place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate with a combined team score of 317. The first day of the tournament was originally set to play 36 holes, before darkness halted play at the par-72, 5,907-yard Oak Point golf course.
Pellegrini (+4) is one of nine players tied for 13th, after firing and opening round 74. She opens Monday's action at the 17th hole with a 66. Anderson, who carded a 77 in the opening round, also begins the morning session with a second round 66. Alanna-Jean Keith, who is on the 16th green to open play on Monday, shot an opening round 80. Teammate Bree Baumgartner (165), the only Cadet to complete both rounds on Sunday, closed with a second round 79 after an opening round 86. Devin Lowe, who begins Monday morning on the 18th green, with a score of 77, shot a 98 in the first round.
UNC Greensboro (536) leads the team competition by seven strokes over Campbell (553) followed by a two-way tie for third place between Maryland and host College of Charleston, who finished the opening day with a +19. Individually, UNCG's Fanny Cnops clings to a one-shot lead over Lourdes Lopez (Jacksonville State) and teammate Ana Lucia Martinez (UNCG), through 15 holes of the second round.

Cougars in Third After Day One of Palmetto Intercollegiate
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Led by senior Leigh Whittaker and junior Katharina Boehm, the College of Charleston women's golf team are currently in third-place in the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Oak Point Golf Club. The scheduled two rounds for the day could not be completed due to darkness.
The second round will be completed starting at 8:45a.m. tomorrow, with the third and final round starting immediately.
The Cougars shot 14-over for the first round, but improved over the course of the second round to shoot 5-over thus far for a 19-over total. UNCG is the tournament leader with a team score of 6-over.
Whittaker is tied for sixth-place after shooting an opening 2-over 74 and currently 1-under through 15 holes in her second round.
Boehm also carded a 2-over for the first round and is even-par through 15 holes of her second round. She is currently in ninth-place individually.
