SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Lauren Hutchinson, Appalachian State's Courtney Rhein, and Western Carolina's Jordan Timmermann have all been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today.
Hutchinson leads the Southern Conference in hitting percentage (.448) and has been ranked in the top five nationally every week since Sept. 20.
The junior outside hitter from Kennesaw, Ga., tallied a season-high four aces in the Bulldogs' match against The Citadel Saturday. She has recorded double-digit kills and hit .500 in five of eight conference matches.
Rhein notched a match-high 20 digs against Western Carolina and a match-high 17 against Wofford over the weekend. She leads the conference in digs, averaging 4.85 per set.
The libero currently ranks ninth all-time in ASU history with 1,099 digs as she passed former Mountaineer Kathy Granak on Sunday.
Timmerman picked up her second Freshman of Week honor this season after leading the Catamounts in kills (27) last week. The outside hitter from Florissant, Mo., also posted her third double-double of the season against Wofford with 14 kills and 21 digs, both of which were career highs.

Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week was Jessica Maxwell (The Citadel), Emily Shelton (College of Charleston), Ali Deatsch (Elon), Molly Crenshaw (Davidson), Carolyn Nicoletti (Furman), Moriah Bellissimo (Georgia Southern), Kellie Orewiler (UNCG), Alexis Bauer (Samford), Morgan Cochran (Western Carolina), and Reagan Styles (Wofford).
Nominated for Freshmen of the Week was Ise d'Angelo (The Citadel), Lizzie Theesfeld (College of Charleston), Danielle Smith (Elon), Jamie DeRatt (Georgia Southern), Vicky Harley (UNCG), Chelsi Carter (Samford), Kasey Talley (Chattanooga), and Taylor Baird (Wofford).
