SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for the games played Saturday, October 8. Georgia Southern's Robert Brown was named Offensive Player of the Week while Samford's Alvin Hines earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Chattanooga's Terrell Robinson was selected as the Freshman of the Week, and Wofford's Brenton Bersin was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Robert Brown, Georgia Southern, So., RB, Macon, Ga.
Robert Brown rushed for a game-high 178 yards as Georgia Southern held off Chattanooga, 28-27 Saturday afternoon.  The sophomore running back added 29 yards on two receptions to finish with 207 all-purpose yards.  Brown averaged 10.5 yards per carry and turned in a long of 68 yards.  After Chattanooga tied the game at 21 in the fourth quarter, Brown ripped off a 48-yard run to the UTC 3-yard line.  Jaybo Shaw ran in two plays later to push GSU ahead, 28-21. Brown leads the SoCon and ranks seventh nationally with 120.6 yards per game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alvin Hines, Samford, Jr., SS, Pelham, Ala.
Safety Alvin Hines led the Bulldogs with nine tackles and was credited with two pass break-ups at Furman as Samford earned a 26-21 victory over the Paladins.  With Samford holding a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter, Hines picked off a Chris Forcier pass and set up the Bulldogs' offense at the Furman 25-yard line.  Samford's offense capitalized on the turnover and took a 16-0 lead into halftime.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Terrell Robinson, Chattanooga, Fr., QB, South Pittsburg, Tenn.
Terrell Robinson came off the bench and rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns as Chattanooga came within a two-point conversion of knocking off top-ranked Georgia Southern before falling, 28-27.  Robinson completed five of nine passes for 69 yards in relief of B.J. Coleman who left the game due to injury.  Robinson is the first player to record 100 yards rushing against GSU this season and is the first Moc to score three TDs on the ground since Eldra Buckley in 2006.  Robinson's 114 yards on the ground was a season high for UTC.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brenton Bersin, Wofford, Sr., WR, Charlotte, N.C.
With Wofford holding a 7-0 lead over The Citadel, Brenton Bersin returned a Cass Couey punt 76 yards for a touchdown to give the Terriers a 14-0 advantage, en route to a 43-14 victory.  It was Bersin's first career punt return for a touchdown and the first one for the Terriers since 2006.  Wofford leads the nation in punt returns with an average of 27.0 yards per return.  The senior wideout added two receptions for 12 yards in the game.
