SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Meredyth Frye, a sophomore women's basketball player at Georgia Southern, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for January 5, the league office announced today.
The Fredericksburg, Va., native holds a 3.61 GPA in graphic design.
The Eagle guard led Georgia Southern in scoring over the previous four games with 17.5 points per contest and was the second-leading rebounder with 6.5 per game. In the four games, Frye shot 53.5 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. In a win over Samford, the sophomore recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She followed that up with a then-career-best 20 point performance against High Point. The next game, Frye set a new career-high in points with 24 against conference foe Elon.
Other nominees included The Citadel men's basketball player Mike Groselle, Elon women's basketball player Kelsey Evans, UNCG women's basketball player Monique Floyd and Chattanooga women's basketball player Kayla Christopher.
