SPARTANBURG, S.C. - ESPN announced Monday (Jan. 31) the pairings for the 2011 BracketBuster event, scheduled to take place February 18-19. Five of the Southern Conference's 12 teams will participate in the event. Three of the league's teams were designated as home teams, while two schools will travel as part of the annual event. College of Charleston was selected to appear on television and will host Vermont on Saturday, February 19. The matchup between the Cougars and Catamounts will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be televised by ESPNU.
Wofford (12-10, 9-2 SoCon) will play host to Ball State (13-7, 5-2 MAC) in what will be the Terriers' first game in the BracketBuster event. It will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Eastern Kentucky (12-10, 6-5 OVC) will visit Western Carolina (9-13, 5-5 SoCon). The Catamounts will play their second game in the annual event, after falling at Kent State last season. WCU is 0-2 against the Colonials. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1971.
Davidson (9-12, 3-7 SoCon) will travel to face Presbyterian (10-12, 4-6 Big South). The Wildcats and Blue Hose have split the all-time series, 1-1 and have not met since 1965. Davidson is 1-1 in BracketBuster games.
Appalachian State (8-13, 4-7 SoCon) will travel to face High Point (7-13, 4-7 Big South). The Mountaineers are 2-2 all-time in BracketBuster games. High Point holds a 55-35 lead in the all-time series between the two schools. The Mountaineers and Panthers have not met on the hardwood since the 1977-78 season.
College of Charleston (15-7, 8-2 SoCon) owns a 3-1 record in BracketBuster games and has won its last three games in the event. The Cougars earned an 85-83 victory at George Mason last season.
Start times will be finalized between the schools at a later date.
The Southern Conference is 12-12 all-time in BracketBuster games dating back to 2004. League teams were 3-1 in the event last season. Southern Conference schools are 7-3 in home games and 5-9 on the road.
