Allen Invited to Shrine Bowl

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel Football's Cortez Allen will represent the Bulldogs in the 86th Annual East-West Shrine Game® set for Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. The game will kickoff at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on the NFL Network.

The annual East-West Shrine Game® is one of the most respected and longest-running college post-season bowl game, pitting teams comprised of players from schools in the eastern United States against schools in the western United States.

Allen, selected on the 51-man roster representing the West, is the only player from the Southern Conference participating in the 2011 game. An All-Conference second team selection, Allen tied for the most pass breakups of any Bulldog in 2010 with five, while also adding 22 total tackles and two interceptions for 18 yards. In 2009, Allen recorded two interceptions for 112 yards against Samford, marking the second-highest single-game number of interception return yards in SoCon history. The redshirt senior concluded his collegiate career with 120 total tackles, 20 pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.

Each team in the East-West Shrine Game® is led by a current or former NFL coach and staff; this year's coaches are Dan Reeves and Wade Phillips. Past coaches have included Gene Stallings, Bobby Ross, Don Shula, Romeo Crennel and Marty Schottenheimer.

For players, an invitation to the game is a chance to showcase their abilities to play professional-level football for representatives of all 32 NFL teams. East-West Shrine Game® player alumni include Tom Brady, Brett Farve, John Elway, Larry Csonka and Gale Sayers.
