SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Drew Spradlin, a junior men's basketball player at Elon, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for January 12, the league office announced today.
The Wheelersburg, Ohio, native holds a 3.65 GPA in political science.
Spradlin scored in double figures in all three games last week for the Phoenix and led the team to back-to-back conference wins over Samford and UNCG. For the week, the junior averaged 18.7 points per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field, including 46.7 percent from behind the arc. Spradlin scored a season-high 26 points and grabbed five rebounds in Elon's first-ever win over Samford. Two days later against UNCG, the Phoenix guard had one of his most efficient nights of the season, shooting 8-for-12 for 18 points and pulling down six boards.
Other nominees included Appalachian State men's basketball player Nate Healy, Davidson wrestler Vitaly Radsky and Georgia Southern women's basketball player Krista Tate.
