SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State guard Sam Ramirez has been selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games played through January 4-10.
The senior from Fayetteville, N.C., helped lead the Mountaineers to a 2-1 record in conference play on the week. In a 78-62 win over the College of Charleston, Ramirez scored 17 points while recording five assists, four steals and three rebounds. Her impressive play continued the next game against Wofford when she posted a game-high 24 points and a career-high eight steals. In the 81-60 win over the Terriers, Ramirez also hauled in a season-best seven rebounds and dished out four assists. The Mountaineer guard ended the week by leading the team in scoring against Georgia Southern with 19 points while tallying four assists.
Ramirez currently leads the SoCon in steals per game (2.8) and in assists-to-turnovers ratio (1.9). Ramirez is also second in the conference in scoring with 17.7 points per game.
Appalachian returns to the court on Friday when Samford comes to Boone, N.C., at 7 p.m..
